Voice coil motors (VCM) are widely used in optical focusing automation equipment due to their fast response speed, high control accuracy and simple structure.
The high control accuracy of voice coil motors can realize nanometer-level position control, which is very suitable for the demand of precision focusing of optical lenses. In the automatic focusing (AF) system, the VCM drives the lens group to move back and forth along the optical axis, realizing fast and precise focus adjustment. For example, in microscope autofocus, voice coil motor is used for precision displacement control of microscope objective lens, which supports rapid switching of the observation field and maintains clear imaging, and improves the observation efficiency and accuracy of tiny objects (e.g., biological cells, chip structures).
The VCM operates with extremely low vibration and noise, making it suitable for demanding image capture environments such as microscopic image processing, biometrics or industrial vision systems. In addition, the VCM consumes far less power than conventional motors, making it suitable for long runs of optical equipment.
In laser cutting and engraving equipment, the voice coil motor drives the Z-axis optical component to dynamically adjust the laser focus position to ensure cutting accuracy and consistency on the surface of materials of different thicknesses.
Secondly, voice coil motor is a non-contact drive structure, compared with traditional motors, its movement process has no gear meshing, no backlash, and extremely short response time, which can realize millisecond focusing response and improve image capturing efficiency.
The small size of voice coil motors makes them particularly suitable for installation in miniature or portable devices with stringent space requirements, such as smartphone cameras, automated inspection instruments, and small industrial cameras.
Used in conjunction with optical sensors or displacement encoders, voice coil motors enable closed-loop feedback control so that the center point of an optical device can be stabilized in any situation.
